Homicides are among the most serious offenses with serious consequences both for the relatives of victims and perpetrators and for the sense of security of the general population. This book is based on the Swiss Homicide Monitor, a database that includes all intentional homicides in Switzerland since 1990. The book provides clear information on the perpetrators, victims, circumstances of the crime, the motives behind the killing, the course of the procedure and the legal qualifications. Furthermore, individual specific types of homicides (homicide-suicides, mass and serial murders, etc.) are analyzed in depth. Tötungsdelikte gehören zu den schwerwiegendsten Delikten mit gravierenden Folgen sowohl für die Angehörigen von Opfern und Tätern/Täterinnen als auch für das Sicherheitsgefühl der Allgemeinbevölkerung. Das vorliegende Buch basiert auf dem Swiss Homicide Monitor, einer Datenbank, die sämtliche vorsätzliche Tötungsdelikte in der Schweiz seit 1990 umfasst. Im Buch werden in anschaulicher Weise Informationen zu den Tätern/Täterinnen, Opfern, Tatumständen, den Motiven des Tötungsdelikts sowie zum Verfahrensablauf und zur rechtlichen Qualifikation aufgezeigt. Weiter werden einzelne spezifische Typen von Tötungsdelikten (Homizid-Suizide, Massen- und Serienmorde etc.) vertieft analysiert.

This documented briefing, originally given at the June 1996 meeting of the Homicide Research Working Group, explores the question of whether California faces an impending wave of violence from its increasing number of young people. The future depends on a key uncertainty: will children of coming generations be more violent than today's adolescents? A pessimistic assumption is that children born from 1977 on will face age-specific homicide arrest rates 3 percent higher than the preceding year's birth cohort. A more optimistic future assumes arrest rates will decline by 1 percent in each successive birth cohort, so that the year 2021 will have a 14 percent decrease in homicide arrest rate. A nominal assumption is that each cohort will have an age-specific arrest rate that is about 1 percent higher than the preceding cohort. In the latter case, California's homicide arrest rate in 2021 will be about 28 percent higher than it is today. The key finding is that what lies in store of California depends on the upbringing of young Californians today and tomorrow.

Nordic Homicide in Deep Time draws a unique and detailed picture of developments in human interpersonal violence and presents new findings on rates, patterns, and long-term changes in lethal violence in the Nordics. Conducted by an interdisciplinary team of criminologists and historians, the book analyses homicide and lethal violence in northern Europe in two eras – the 17th century and early 21st century. Similar and continuous societal structures, cultural patterns, and legal cultures allow for long-term and comparative homicide research in the Nordic context. Reflecting human universals and stable motives, such as revenge, jealousy, honour, and material conflicts, homicide as a form of human behaviour enables long-duration comparison. By describing the rates and patterns of homicide during these two eras, the authors unveil continuity and change in human violence. Where and when did homicide typically take place? Who were the victims and the offenders, what where the circumstances of their conflicts? Was intimate partner homicide more prevalent in the early modern period than in present times? How long a time elapsed from violence to death? Were homicides often committed in the context of other crime? The book offers answers to these questions among others, comparing regions and eras. We gain a unique and empirically grounded view on how state consolidation and changing routines of everyday life transformed the patterns of criminal homicide in Nordic society. The path to pacification was anything but easy, punctuated by shorter crises of social turmoil, and high violence. The book is also a methodological experiment that seeks to assess the feasibility of long-duration standardized homicide analysis and to better understand the logic of homicide variation across space and over time. In developing a new approach for extending homicide research into the deep past, the authors have created the Historical Homicide Monitor. The new instrument combines wide explanatory scope, measurement standardization, and articulated theory expression. By retroactively expanding research data to the pre-statistical era, the method enables long-duration comparison of different periods and areas. Based on in-depth source critique, the approach captures patterns of criminal behaviour, beyond the control activity of the courts. The authors foresee the application of their approach in even remoter periods. Nordic Homicide in Deep Time helps the reader to understand modern homicide by revealing the historical continuities and changes in lethal violence. The book is written for professionals, university students and anyone interested in the history of human behaviour.

El objetivo de este trabajo es facilitar la lectura y análisis de una serie de indicadores de violencia en la provincia de Buenos Aires desde 2009 a 2017. Esta publicación se enmarca en la tarea de colaborar en el acceso a la información pública a través de la construcción de series temporales, territoriales y de indicadores poblacionales. Las series de datos que se presentan a continuación han sido elaboradas por el equipo del Observatorio de Políticas de Seguridad (OPS) de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, espacio de trabajo conjunto entre la Comisión Provincial por la Memoria y de la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata. El análisis es realizado a partir de los datos publicados por el área de Estadística de la Procuración General de la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la provincia de Buenos Aires (PGSCJBA).
